Garden Arch and Gate
Most substantive project so far.
9 ft. high, ¼ in. thick steel
Garden ornament/trellis Window ornament and flower box

I made this piece for a friend after her husband of 50 years died. In a way it turned out symbolic. Think of it as a flower growing out of the ground. After a point, it loops down, like a setback in life, then passes through a steel barrier, and then continues to soar upward.

My friend is in fact an inspiration for continuing to grow and soar after setbacks.

The piece itself I made by heating a square bar in the forge until red hot, then twisting and hammering it into this shape. I punched, not drilled, the hole to allow the rod to pass through itself (look closely).

The patina (sculptnouveau.com) looks more like mahogany than steel.
